Quick update
Since the time change, I’ve not been able to motivate myself to do much of anything after 8:00pm. Boo.
I did a 9 mile run yesterday that for whatever reason kicked my butt. The run itself wasn’t bad. I felt pretty strong running through the hills of the Pacific Palisades, but post run I was very exhausted and achy for the rest of the day (also, forgot body glide. ouch.) I cranked up my intensity with my workouts since the 18 miler I did after the Pasadena Marathon was cancelled, so I think I’ll just cool off for the rest of the week, stay active, stretch, and hope for the best for the High Desert 50k next Sunday. Wish me luck.

As far as the 50k in less than three weeks goes..I did an 18 mile run yesterday which felt easy and fast… so I’m not freaking out anymore. More to come.
Marathon Cancelled.
welp this is a first for me. I needed to run 26 miles this weekend… not feeling so inspired to do it by myself right now.

Event Organizers Cancel Race Due To Poor Air Quality
|
|
We regret to inform you that we have been compelled to cancel today’s Kaiser Permanente Pasadena Marathon as a result of the significant wildfires in the Los Angeles area and resulting unsafe air quality. Pasadena Forward’s decision was made in consultation with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Team and the City of Pasadena.
Please know that it was extremely difficult to arrive at this decision, and we know that this is a disappointing outcome for all of us who have worked so hard for this inaugural event. However, the only appropriate response to this emergent situation, given that the safety and well-being of our participants is at the forefront of our concerns, was to cancel.
Over the next several days, we will hold discussions to determine appropriate next steps. Once concrete plans have been developed, updates will be posted at www.pasadenamarathon.org. All registered participants will also be notified via email of all important updates.
Thank you for your support and patience as we work through this challenge. We hope you are safe and well.

Pasadena Marathon?
This is from the Pasadena Marathon website:
We are in consultation with air-quality experts, as well as health and fire officials, to determine if last-minute adjustments to our event must be made as a result of fires burning locally. If the event must be cancelled due to poor air quality, this determination will be made at 4:00 a.m., and all persons who are signed up for our newsletter will receive a notification to this effect. We thank you for your support and patience.
Music Update and Taper
Lot’s to update, I’ll try to keep it interesting.
On Music-
This is from my show at Tangier last weekend. The room had its challenges, the biggest being the full band playing in the room across the hall. I made some swift changes to my set list which eliminated most of the soft/intimate songs from the set since it would be too difficult to fight with the noise. However, the more up-beat stuff worked very well. It was fun playing on a grand again and brought a new light to my songs. I’ll be recording with a grand piano for this upcoming CD.
Which, by the way, I’m finally getting a plan for. I recorded rough vocals and key parts for my friend and super-talented engineer and drummer Corey Schreppel (check out Captain Pablo). One of my best friends and former roommate Adam Comstock is going to record vocals for me, which should be fun, and my friend Jeremy Lawton (Big Head Todd and the Monsters) will do some other fun stuff like maybe B3 and lap steel. More to come with this. I’m a little nervous about my ambitious timeline, but I’m excited and hopeful for the first time in a while that I will have something I can be proud of and not have to dig myself into a (bigger) hole of debt.
Here’s a few more pictures from Tangier (photo credit Sue Arunasalam. Thanks Sue!)
On Running
I guess I’m tapering? Maybe? I’m not sure if you’re supposed to taper for a marathon that is a training run for an ultra-marathon. Regardless, this week has been pretty light, so I’ll call it a taper. Pasadena Marathon is this Sunday and I’m very excited for it. I’m trying not to get too ambitious about it, because I promised myself that this would not be a race, but a training run. Plus, the course is apparently pretty hilly. However, I can’t help but get a little competitive.
On Being Poor
I made up a new recipe today. We ran out of butter so instead, I put some milk on a piece of bread and toasted it for about 3 minutes, then sprinkled some cinnamon sugar on it and tasted it for another 3-4 minutes. It tastes a lot like french toast.
I’ll update post-marathon. I’m going to Louisiana to visit family next week. I can’t wait.
